The Science and Art of Visual Communication
Dr Jonathan Miller

Author, Broadcaster, Operatic Director and Medical Historian
Dr Jonathan Miller has had a distinguished career in many different fields:
author, lecturere, television producer and presenter, theatre, film and
operatic director.
Few people realise, howver, that Dr Miller began his career as a scientist:
he studied natural sciences and qualified as a doctor of medicine.
Drawing on this mulit-disciplinary background Dr Miller's talk,
"From the Look of It", concentrates on the importance of the
gaze in painting.
Using paintings in general and portraiture in particular, he will discuss
representations of 'the look' in art.
Interested members of the public are welcome to attend.
The meeting will take place in the
Royal Museum of Scotland, Chambers Street
at 7pm.
