Her Majesty the Queen's 90th Birthday

The Society marked the 90th birthday of its Patron, Her Majesty the Queen, by sending a Loyal Address reading:

To The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty

May it please Your Majesty -

The President, Council and Fellows of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts beg to present to Your Majesty their heartfelt congratulations and good wishes on the occasion of Your Majesty's Ninetieth Birthday.

The Society is deeply grateful for the honour bestowed by the patronage of successive Sovereigns since the Society’s foundation in 1821 and its incorporation by Royal Charter in 1841. It is conscious also of Your Majesty’s concern for the furtherance of the useful arts - science, technology and manufactures - a furtherance which has contributed so significantly to the eminence and prosperity of your Nation and to the happiness of your loyal and devoted servants.

Her Majesty graciously replied:

I much appreciated the kind words you have sent on behalf of the Council and Fellows of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts on the occasion of my ninetieth birthday.

As your Patron, I was grateful for your thoughtfulness in writing as you did and, in return, send you all my warm good wishes.

ELIZABETH R.

The Society was represented by its President, Professor Stuart Monro, at the "Patron's Lunch" on the Mall on 12th June. He sent us this picture of Her Majesty and Prince Phillip.
