Summer Visits 2025

Please note that Visits are usually only open to Fellows of the Society. Occasionally there may be space for some guests of Fellows.

Saturday 26th July at 11.00am

Visit to Port of Leith Distillery

The Society has reserved a "Private Experience at Port of Leith Distillery" at 11am on Saturday, July 26 at the discounted price of £24 per person (normally £30 per person).

During your tour you'll hear the story of two Edinburgh friends who wanted to make an extraordinary whisky, work your way through our remarkable vertical distillery layout then fill & label your very own bottle of our New Make spirit.

  • Hear the story of our company's unlikely inception.
  • Explore the world's tallest distillery.
  • Fill your own miniature bottle of our New Make spirit.
  • Take a seat in the QC LAB and understand whisky-making like never before with a tasting that takes you right the way through the production & maturation process. Enjoy this guided tasting session of our New Make spirits, port, sherry and Table Whisky.

Wednesday 24th September at 10.00am

Visit to Lothian Buses Central Bus Garage

We are delighted to be guests of Mr Dylan Dastey, Head of Engineering/Chief Engineer, who will introduce us to an exclusive ‘Behind the Scenes’ tour of Lothian Buses' Annandale Street Depot - a rare opportunity to see the inner workings “… of one of the UK’s most modern and environmentally-friendly transport networks.”

Lothian Buses have over 100 years of service, operating more than 70 routes with a fleet of over 700 buses—including Edinburgh’s first-ever double-deck electric buses. During the tour, we will be shown areas normally off-limits to the public, including the high-tech control room, garage, and see the cutting-edge electric fleet charging stations.

The visit is limited to a maximum 20, so priority booking will be given to Fellows, on a first come/first served. (If this proves popular, we will re-run again within the next 12 months).

If you would like to join this visit to Lothian Buses, which is free of charge, please email the secretary at secretary@rssa.org.uk.

(Bus access using services 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 25, & 49 which stop at Elm Row; or Tram stop McDonald Road)
